MRS. IDA MERELE EDWARDS SMITH 1992

Mrs. Ida Smith longtime resident of Woodruff County, died at
1:00 pm Friday, Sept. 18, 1992 at the Central Arkansas General
Hospital in Searcy where she had been a patient for the past three
weeks. She was 83 years old and died following a four month illness.

Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 pm Sunday, Sept. 20 at
the Thompson-Wilson Funeral Chapel with Rev. Emanuel Long
of McCrory officiating. Interment was in the Woodman Cemetery
in Woodruff County. Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home of McCrory
and Wynne were in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Smith was born April 16, 1909 in Starkville, Miss. the daughter
of the late Joseph and Mary Edwards. She moved at the age of 6
with her parents to the Tipp community in Woodruff County and
attended schools in the Tipp community. She was married Oct.27,
1929 to Mr. Dave Burkett Smith, retired Woodruff County farmer
and school bus driver who preceded her in death Nov. 3, 1990. She
was a former resident of the Tipp community and Patterson before
moving to McCrory in 1968. Mr. and Mrs. Smith farmed for a number
of years in Woodruff County and she was employed in later years
in the food service department of the McCrory High School before
her retirement. She was a member of the Patterson First Baptist
Church and the Woodruff County Aging progam. Mrs. Smith's
interest included crocheting, gardening and flowers as long as
health permitted.

She is survied by two sons; Billy Dave Smith of McCrory and Bobby
Joe Smith of Memphis, Tenn.; one daughter Mrs. Peggy Stutts of
Crown Point,In.; two brothers, Floyd Edwards of Nilonia,Mich., and
Walter Edwards ofOoltewah, Tenn.;two sisters, Mrs. Lou Smith of
McCrory and Mrs. Mary Hyde of Augusta; 11 grandchildren and
14 great-grandchildren. She is proceded in death by a daughter,
Betty Jean Smith and a son Donald Morris Smith. Pallbearers were
James Jackson, Jack Keating, James Long, Ellis Reeves, Roger Smith,
and Jack Tuner. The family request that memorials be made to the
American Cancer Society.
