MAN KILLED IN ACCIDENT NEAR OVERCUP

Wilton Edwards age 55 of Augusta and formerly of McCrory, apparently
was killed instantly and Jerry Hyde, age 27, of Augusta, his nephew,
was injured Wednesday morning shortly after midnight when the car
in which they were driving overturned on State Highway 17 on a curve
at Overcup.

Sheriff Ed Hall who investigated said that Edwards was dead on arrival
at the Woodruff County Hospital and that Hyde apparently suffered
injures to one elbow and his back.

The investigation revealed that the two men were returning home from
Newport when Hyde, who was driving, lost control of the vehicle on the
curve .3 of a mile inside the Woodruff County Line. Sheriff Hall said the
car overturned and Edwards' body apparently was thrown from the car.
The car was completely demolished.

The deceased was a veteran of World War II and during the past 15
years made his home in both Woodruff County and California.
He is survived by four sons, Royce, Thomas and John Edwards of
California and George of the U.S.Navy, Millington, Tenn.; three
daughters Patricia Lee, Brenda and Gala Edwards all of California;
five sisters Mrs. Lou Smith, Mrs. Nova Capshaw and Mrs. Ida Smith
all of McCrory; Mrs. Mary Hyde of Augusta; Mrs. Ellen Green of
Illinois; four brothers Felix Edwards of Paragould, Floyd Edwards
of Michigan and Walter and Wallace Edwards both of California.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2:00 at
the Thompson- Wilson Funeral Chapel by the Rev. William Stone,
pastor of the Church of Nazarene. Burial will be in the Woodman
Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Tom Turner, Clarence Stokes, Larry Smith, Dudley
Elam, Jim Fore and Jim Raymond.
