WALTER LAFAEYETTE EDWARDS 1997
Walter Edwards of Oolewah, Tenn. Near Chattanooga, formally of
McCrory, died Tuesday, July 8, 1997 at the Stratford House
Rehabilitation Center in Chattanooga. He was 82 years old and died
following an extended illness.

Services were held July 13 at the Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home
Chapel in McCrory with Elder William Webb of Cocoa, Florida and Dr.
Lyndon Harder of Dalton, Ga. officiating. Interment was in the Woodman
Cemetery in McCrory. Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home was in charge
of arrangements.

Mr. Edwards was born on August 16,1914 in Ackerman, Miss. one of
a family of ten children, to the late Joseph Martin and Mary Viola
Chandler Edwards. He moved with his family at an early age to the
McCrory area and attended schools at Tipp and Patterson.
Mr. Edwards was married on May 30, 1936 to the former Miss Reba
Lucille Deck who survives. In earlier years he was employed as a
trucker in Brawley, Ca before moving to the Chattanooga area where he
was self-employed as a salesman of used cars and equipment until
his retirement in 1982. He attended the Seventh Day Adventist
Church.

Survivors are his wife, Reba; two daughters, Linda Harder of Dalton,
GA and Sharon Webb of Cocoa, Fl.; one brother Floyd Edwards of
Livonia, Mich. 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and a number of
nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Pallbearers were J.E.Browning, Jim Byers, Thomas Edwards, Lemont
Murphy, George Ropey and Billy Dave Smith. The family request that
memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
